Beautiful Wedding Photos from Italy

Remember those gorgeous blue and silver wedding invitations we designed and printed earlier this summer for Julie & Joe’s wedding in Italy that were posted here at the beginning of this month?  Well, Julie was kind enough to send over some photos from her and Joe’s gorgeous wedding, as well as some photos of her programs, place cards, menus and itineraries on-location!  Check them out below!

Isn’t that one of the most romantic photos you’ve ever seen?!?  Julie, Joe and Santa Margherita, Italy all look just beautiful!  Below you can see a few different images of both Julie & Joe’s wedding itinerary and their ceremony programs.  I love the silver ribbon Julie used to tie the programs together!

Below is maybe one of the most beautifully set tables I’ve ever seen.  I love Julie’s flowers!  You can also see the letterpress menus and place cards we created for her and Joe in several of these photos.  All of the place card calligraphy was done by the fabulous Fran Heider of Little Flower Calligraphy.

And, one more of their lovely menus and placecards as well as the beautiful bride and handsome groom!  Thanks so much for sharing these with us Julie!  Your wedding was absolutely gorgeous!

The Pressman | BnS Letterpress Video

A very good friend of mine, Bob Giles, sent me a link to this video yesterday.  I wanted to share it with you all because, not only is it a neat interview with him, but it also has a lot of footage of Bob’s letterpress print shop as well as some historic printing footage.  Without the help of Bob, Twin Ravens Press probably wouldn’t be in existence today.  Shortly after I graduated from college, Bob took me under his wing and taught me a vast majority of what I know about letterpress printing.  He’s an amazing guy, and I’m so happy that I ran into him years ago.

This video was produced by University of Oregon School of Journalism student, Isaac Viel.  Check it out!

Brianne & Brandon's Wedding on Style Me Pretty

Earlier this summer we worked with a lovely bride in California that was also a blogger for Wedding Bee.  You may remember her as “Miss Turtle”.  We featured Brianne & Brandon’s wedding invitations on this blog back in May.  They were a lovely chocolate brown design with pink envelopes and some awesome silver edge-painting.  If you didn’t get to see those, you should totally check them out here.  They were lovely!  At any rate, I was browsing the internet this morning with a cup of coffee and ran across none other than the same Brianne and Brandon’s wedding over on Style Me Pretty!  While the feature on SMP doesn’t feature photos of their stationery, it does feature many gorgeous photos from their wedding day!  If you liked their stationery and are curious about how their big day turned out, check out the feature, right here.

Weddings | Alyssa & Matthew

I’m so sorry for my extended blogging absence, folks!  We’ve been busy around here finishing up fall orders and getting holiday cards ready for the upcoming holiday season!  I want to get back in to the blogging swing of things though by showing you this lovely set of modern, orange and grey wedding invitations that we created for Virginia couple, Alyssa and Matthew, who are getting married tomorrow!  Alyssa and Matthew’s invitation suite included a 4bar ceremony invitation, a larger #10 size reception invitation, a 4bar response card with corresponding orange envelope and a #10 grey outer invitation envelope to hold everything in.  Alyssa and Matthew are getting married at Alyssa’s parent’s home and are having a small, private ceremony followed by a larger reception with drinks, dessert and dancing.  All of their pieces were printed on Crane Lettra 100% cotton bright white paper in two ink colors: a medium, warm grey and a bright, festive orange.  Alyssa wanted a modern design and not a lot of graphical elements, but I did create a pattern of modern lines with varying sized circles for them that were used throughout the suite.

Below is an image of Alyssa & Matthew’s ceremony invitation.  As I mentioned above, they are having a small, intimate ceremony for just close friends and family, so they had me print their ceremony invitations much smaller than the main reception invitation.  This card is a 4bar size.  I love the ultra-modern treatment of their names!  Alyssa and Matthew’s names are purposefully joined together, without spacing, and we used a modern, all-lower-case, san-serif font for Alyssa’s name, and a slightly bolder, serif face for Matthew’s.  The names really stand out on this card in the lovely bright orange ink that Alyssa picked!

After the ceremony, Alyssa and Matthew planned for a larger, evening reception for more guests, with drinks, dessert and dancing.  We created a larger, #10 size invite for this part of the evening in the same style, which you can see below.

Their reply card was also a 4bar size, printed entirely in grey ink!  I love how Alyssa included lines for guests to suggest requests for the dj and bartender.  I’m sure it’s going to be a fabulous party!  You can also see in the photos above a close-up of their invitation envelopes (lower left) that had their return addresses printed on the flap in grey ink, as well as their reply card envelopes (lower right) that were orange with grey ink on the front.  I just love how this suite came together and think that the design, combined with Alyssa and Matthew’s color choices, was perfect for a modern, fall wedding.  Congratulations Alyssa and Matthew!  Thanks again!

Save the Date | Jasmine & Kristin are Getting Married!

A couple of weeks ago I finished a lovely set of Save-the-Date cards for a wonderful couple getting married in Tennessee next May!  When Jasmine contacted me about creating her and her fiancee’s Save-the-Date cards and wedding invitations several months ago, they had seen another Save-the-Date that we had done earlier this year on our site that they liked so much, that they wanted to do something similar for their own.  Jasmine & Kristin’s Save-the-Date is the same style and size as the aforementioned Save-the-Date, but we customized it with their own colors, paper and envelope choices, and Jasmine’s own handwriting for the design.  This Save-the-Date is a long & skinny monarch size (measuring 7.25″x3.75″) and was printed on 100% cotton, super-thick, Crane Lettra 220 lb. Duplex Pearl White paper.  These were printed in one ink color: a light, pretty, celadon green and they came with coordinating light pink envelopes from Green Paper Company.

Here is the Save-the-Date card by itself.  Jasmine and Kristin’s cards are double-sided.  For one side of the design, we blind embossed all sorts of wedding-related phrases including their names, the date and where they are getting married into the background, all over the card, to create some awesome texture.  Then, I had Jasmine write out the words “Save the Date” in her handwriting and we letterpress printed her words in celadon green ink towards the bottom of the back of the card.  The opposite side of the card featured all of their Save-the-Date information, including their names and wedding date (also in Jasmine’s handwriting), the location and the address of their wedding website.  We chose a lovely, modern san-serif typeface for the parts of the Save-the-Date that weren’t in Jasmine’s handwriting to create some contrast within the design.  This is also the same font that we used for the blind embossing on the back.

Aren’t these pretty?!?  I love how Jasmine’s handwriting created such an awesome letterpress impression in the thick cotton paper.  It feels just amazing!

In the photos below you can see the backside with the blind embossing a little bit closer up.  In the image in the top left, you can also see a close-up of the envelope flaps.  I love the light pink color Jasmine & Kristin chose to pair with these cards!  I printed their return address on the envelope flap using the same celadon green ink we had used for the actual card and we used Jasmine’s handwritten names in the address to coordinate with the rest of the design.

I’m so excited about how these cards turned out!  Jasmine and Kristin booked with me super-early and it took a while for me to start their stationery, but now that it’s well underway, it’s turning out so beautifully!  I’m actually going to have their actual wedding invitations finished later this week and I can’t wait to show those to you too!  In case you were curious, here is a photo of the lovely couple that these were created for on the left!  Aren’t they both going to be such gorgeous brides this coming spring?!?  I’m so excited I’ve gotten to work with these two, and their invites are going to be just awesome!  Check back here for those in a week or two!

Weddings | Michelle & Thomas

Twin Ravens Press owes a big “Happy Anniversary” to one of the awesome couples we worked with last year, Michelle & Thomas.  Michelle & Thomas’ one-year anniversary will be this upcoming Sunday, and since I didn’t get to blog about the invitations we created for their wedding when we did them, I’d love to share them with you now!   You can see Michelle & Thomas’ full invitation suite in the photo above.  It included an A7 size, matted invitation with inner/outer invitation envelopes, and a 4bar size reply card with corresponding envelope.  The invite and reply card were printed in two ink colors: chocolate brown and a pretty, reddish-purple, and the envelopes were printed in one ink color: chocolate brown.

For this invitation we did a two-color variation on our original birds in branches design.  Michelle and Thomas’ version featured two little birdies in the branches above the text of their invitation.  Most of the design was printed in chocolate brown, but we used our accent color (reddish-purple) to set off their names and the two little birds.  We actually matched the purple to the matting that we used to matt each of their invitations, which was Waste Not Paper Company’s “Beet” purple color.  In the grouping above you can also see the back flap of Michelle & Thomas’ outer envelopes.  We used the same fonts for the envelope addresses as we did for the main pieces in the suite to create a totally matching set.

For their reply cards, we used the same decorative elements and fonts.  These were also printed in two colors.  Again, the majority of the design was done in brown with just the birds and “Réspondez s’il vous plaît!” accented in purple.  This card also came with a matching white envelope from Crane with their address printed on the front of it in chocolate brown ink.

Wasn’t Michelle & Thomas’ invitation suite absolutely gorgeous?!?  Even though it’s nearly a year after their wedding, I still needed to share it with you!  Congratulations and Happy Anniversary Michelle & Thomas!  Thanks again!

Weddings | Carol & Carlos

Earlier this summer we had the pleasure of working with a really sweet couple in New York City, Carol & Carlos.  Carol had designed her wedding invitations herself and was looking for a letterpress printer to do her printing, when she discovered us.

I absolutely love Carol’s pairing of traditional Chinese and Latin/Spanish design elements to represent the two families distinct cultural backgrounds.  The double-happiness symbol that you see at the top of the design is an element that is often used in invitations for Chinese couples, and dragons are often used in Chinese imagery as well.  The phoenix on the bottom right corner of the invitation is an animal often seen in Spanish/Latin mythology and I think the way that Carol combined these elements was really neat!  These invitations were printed on Crane Lettra 100% cotton ecru paper in a bright red ink.  I think they turned out awesome!

Thanks so much for working with us, Carol & Carlos!  If you ever need anything else, please don’t hesitate to let me know!

Kelly & Wai's Cute Wedding Thank You Notes

Hi all!  Almost a month ago I blogged about some really pretty aubergine and grey wedding invitations with blind embossing that we created for a couple in Massachusetts, Kelly & Wai, who were married over Labor Day weekend.  Shortly after Labor Day, Kelly contacted me again about designing a set of custom thank you notes to match their wedding stationery.  Aren’t these cute?!?

To create these awesome little cards, we re-used the printing plate for the embossed honeycomb pattern that we had created for the reply cards and blind embossed the same pattern in the upper right corner of their thank you cards.  We then created a new printing plate for the aubergine bee, honey with dipper, and for the words “Thank You” and printed it on top!  These cards were printed on Crane Lettra 100% cotton pearl white paper and are a 4bar folded size measuring 3.5″x4.875″.  I just love the way we were able to re-use printing plates as well as several of the design elements from their other wedding stationery!  Thanks so much Kelly & Wai!  You guys are awesome!

Weddings | Julie & Joe

Happy October everyone!  I can’t believe 2010 is flying by so fast.  It’s amazing.  At any rate, Twin Ravens Press has a very big congratulations for San Francisco couple, Julie & Joe, today.  Julie and Joe ordered their wedding invitations and other paper goods from Twin Ravens and are getting married today in Italy (actually they are already married and having their reception, since Italy is so far ahead time-zone wise, but you get where I’m going with this).  We worked with Julie and Joe on several different stationery pieces for their wedding, from invitations to pieces for the actual ceremony and reception (happening now!!).  You can see their whole invitation suite at the top of this post which included an A7 size invitation printed in two ink colors: deep navy blue and silver, a 4bar reply card, matching envelopes for both and a custom letterpress printed belly band.

All of Julie and Joe’s stationery was printed on Crane Lettra 100% cotton Pearl White Paper in one or two ink colors: deep navy blue and/or metallic silver.  Their envelopes were also from Crane’s Lettra line and were pearl white with square flaps.  When you first opened Julie & Joe’s wedding invitation, this is what you would see:

Isn’t that a gorgeous package?!?  Julie and Joe’s envelopes were printed with silver ink and all of the pieces in their invitation suite were held together with a custom printed, paper belly band that had the word “Amore” (“Love” in Italian) in script in the center of it.

Above you can see their invitation by itself.  Julie wanted to invoke a sense of old-world style and romance for her Italian wedding with her invitation.  The invitation we designed is a traditional A7 size and featured a delicate, formal, romantic border, printed in blue ink all the way around.  Inside the border, we used three different fonts for the text of the invitation.  Julie and Joe’s names as well as the name of the church where they are being married in Italy were done in the fanciest script of the suite, with lots of delicate flourishes.  We used a simpler, but still very decorative, script face for the wedding date and Julie’s parent’s names, and then we used a still formal, but less decorative, classic serif typeface for the rest of the text.  It’s sometimes difficult to incorporate a lot of fonts into a design without making the design too busy, but I think the way we did it for Julie & Joe’s stationery turned out really really elegant.

We also created a 4bar size response card to accompany their invitation.  The response card was printed in blue and the envelope for it was printed in silver ink.  We still managed to incorporate all three fonts in to the actual card and we used a very decorative circular motif, printed large for the decoration on the card.  The reply envelopes featured Julie’s parent’s address on the front and a small flourish on the back flap, both in silver ink.  In the group of photos below you can see detail photos of the reply card, both envelopes and the belly band.

After their invitations were mailed out, Julie and Joe hired Twin Ravens Press again to create some additional stationery pieces for their actual ceremony and reception.  Here is their wedding program:

The program is also an A7 size with a fold in the center to create a little booklet.  We helped Julie design the interior pages for this piece as well.  In order to save some money on printing, Julie opted to have the cover of her programs letterpress printed and the interior pages digitally printed.  This is a great way to save money on programs and other pieces that may have multiple pages, while still maintaining the look and style of letterpress printing.  For this design I created a couple of new flourish-y border elements with birds, and we utilized the same fonts and same dark blue ink color that we had used on the invitations.  Julie also had me print a short, sweet little message on the back of each program, which you can see in the bottom right photo of the above grouping.

Many of Julie & Joe’s guests were planning to spend time in Italy before and after the wedding as well.  Since Julie and Joe wanted to spend as much time with their guests as possible and also give them ideas and tips on other things to do in and around Santa Margherita, they had me also design and print a wedding itinerary booklet for each guest.  Like the program, the cover of these itineraries was letterpress printed and the interior pages were digitally printed.  Julie’s guide included tips on things to see, places to eat, maps and other things to do.  It seems like a really fantastic guide, especially for guests who had never travelled to Italy before.

The left and top right image in the above grouping are of the Itinerary cover.  The image in the bottom right is of their place cards for the reception.  These place cards are tented and feature a little bit of the motif from their belly band and reply card in the bottom left corner, and a brand new border printed in blue ink.  Julie hired the fabulous Fran Heider of Little Flower Calligraphy to calligraph both her invitation envelopes and her place cards.  If you are in need of a calligrapher for you upcoming event, I can’t say enough good things about Fran and her work.  She’s just fabulous!

Last, but certainly not least, Julie and Joe also hired us to design and print a set of wedding menus for their reception dinner.  Julie and Joe planned to have a traditional, Italian, multi-course dinner for their wedding reception.  I lived in Italy for a short time in college and, let me tell you, one of the best things about Italy is the food and the way the Italians take their time and enjoy it.  As you can see from the above menu, their wedding dinner involved five amazing-sounding courses.  We printed these menus in both English and Italian in blue ink on a #10 size, long and skinny piece of paper.  The border we used for the design is the same border I created for them for their invitation.  Aren’t those gorgeous, and doesn’t their dinner just sound amazing!?!

Julie and Joe were so much fun to work with and I’m sure that their wedding in Italy today has been amazing.  Julie promised to share pictures from the day once they are back in the States, and I can’t wait to see them!  Congratulations Julie & Joe!  Have a wonderful rest of your trip, and we’ll talk to you soon!
