Laser-Engraved Wooden Arbor Collaboration with Tim Boyden

Did you know that Twin Ravens Press also offers custom laser engraving for a wide variety of materials and applications?  We create a lot of paper goods here, but we also do a fair bit of engraving into wood, acrylic, leather, fabric and other materials too!  Check out this awesome collaboration with local Eugene artist Tim Boyden of Out on a Limb Gallery.  Tim was commissioned to build this cool driftwood arbor for one of his client’s upcoming weddings and he hired us to engrave the dragonflies in the sign hanging from the top!

Weddings | Renee & Peter

What do you get when a really awesome Australian couple with Scottish roots decides to get married?  Really awesome wedding invitations, with a nod to their Scottish heritage.  Renee and Peter contacted me earlier this spring about creating a set of wedding invitations for their upcoming wedding in November and I had such a wonderful time working with them, I couldn’t help but show their invites off to you!

Renee and Peter’s suite features so many fun elements including lined envelopes, blind embossing, letterpress printing, and a really fun and unique laser-cut piece!

Renee4

Renee and Peter’s invitation is a standard A7 size that features a blind embossed woodgrain pattern all over the background and letterpress typography printed in black ink.  The design of the invite is casual and fun and I was super-excited when they asked if the graphic at the bottom could be a set of bagpipes!  (It was honestly really exciting, no one has ever asked me to draw bagpipes before).

Like many modern couples, Renee and Peter planned to have their guests RSVP online, so we needed some sort of way to indicate where to do that.  In order to do that, we took of running with the bagpipe motif and created a custom, laser-cut and engraved set of double-sided website cards out of maple wood veneer that featured their website address on one side and the password on the opposite.  The wooden bagpipe cards were then tied around each invitation with jute twine.

Aren’t they just too cool!?!  This combined with the green and navy blue tartan envelope liner you see in the top photo, I think, were a really nice nod to their Scottish roots!  I’m imagining that there will be some awesome photos of gentlemen in kilts, possibly playing bagpipes, to come from this wedding in just a few short months!

Renee & Peter, thanks so much again for working with us!  You two are awesome!!

Weddings | Alicia & Tim

Alicia1In the spirit of Throwback-Thursday, I’d like to show you one of my favorite wedding invitation suites from a couple of years ago that I just hadn’t gotten around to putting up on the blog, until now!  This suite was designed by New York City designer, Jihee Wu, for Melbourne, Australia couple, Alicia and Tim!  I love how modern and timeless this suite is and how it utilizes many of the lovely things that letterpress printing has to offer, in such an elegant and classic way!
Alicia3Alicia4Alicia & Tim’s invitation suite featured a 5.5″ square invitation, letterpress printed in a charcoal grey ink on 100% cotton Crane Lettra Pearl White Paper.  The suite also featured matching grey envelopes that were letterpress printed with black ink.  All of Alicia and Tim’s pieces incorporated a blind embossed monogram, which you can see at the top of the invite in the above photos.

Other pieces included a single color (gray) reply postcard and a smaller reception card with their wedding website info at the bottom.

We also printed a gorgeous set of simple, modern thank you cards, and matching menus and ceremony programs for the day of the wedding.  Alicia & Tim’s thank you cards and thank you card envelopes are pictured below!

Custom Laser-Engraved Guest Book for Murray & Lurline

Guest-BookA very good friend of mine, from college, got married in Walla Walla, Washington last summer.  This same friend also recently opened his own letterpress printing and design business in Seattle, called Two Thousand Pounds of Letterpress, and one of his early projects in his own shop, was he and his wife’s wedding invitations!  The invitations were beautiful, and I was super-honored when Murray asked me to collaborate with him on creating laser-engraved wooden covers, in the same design as his wedding invitations, for his guest book.  Twin Ravens Press laser-cut the covers and Murray bound the book by hand.  The book turned out beautifully, and I’m sure will be a treasured heirloom for years to come.

If you’d like to check out Murray and Lurline’s matching invitations, you can over on their blog.  If you’re interested in having a custom guest book made out of wood, or traditional paper and book board, for your own wedding,  please contact us!  We would love to work with you!

Weddings | Karllie and Steve (Or, "How We Got Featured In Cosmopolitan in Australia")

Karllie1

Hello, Lovelies!!  If you’ve been following our Facebook page recently, you may have caught our exciting news last week that a set of wedding stationery we printed last year was featured in the most recent issue of Cosmopolitan Bride in Australia!  How did I find out about this, you might ask?  Well, an awesome prospective client from down under (Hi, Nikki!), emailed to tell me about it!  How cool is that?!?  Because I’ve been unable to figure out how to purchase a copy of an Australian periodical from Oregon so far, I haven’t seen the feature in person yet, but a couple of the coolest Australian folks we know, have offered to mail us a copy!  So, while we’re waiting for that, I figured it would be cool to show off the actual stationery that made it in to the magazine!

The stationery in question you can see above!  It was created for Victoria-based couple Karllie and Steve and featured an A7 size invitation and envelope, a 4bar size reply card and envelope and a super-cool, coordinating, laser-cut tag on a silk ribbon to tie everything together.  This is how it would have looked, if you had gotten one in the mail:

Karllie5Karllie2

Karllie and Steve’s suite was printed in a single dark-blue-grey ink on super-thick, eco-friendly 100% bamboo paper.  My favorite thing about this design is its simplicity and versatility.  I also love how, unlike a traditional wedding invitation, where the names are in a super-decorative (often script) typeface and the other info is in a block font, this invite switches that up and utilizes a large block typeface for the names and a fun, yet still readable, more decorative font for the body text.  We also used a pretty little glyph throughout the suite as a small decoration.  I love how small details like this tie everything together without being too bold and “design-y”.

Check out the matching reply card and envelope below.  Again, I just love how simple, yet elegant the whole design is.

Karllie3Karllie4

Despite loving it all, one of my favorite design elements of this suite, is the custom tag we created to act as a belly band and tie the suite together.  This tag is a fold-over that measures approximately 1.5 x 2 inches.  It featured the couple’s initials and the same little design element from the rest of the suite, laser cut into the same bamboo paper.  We then found a text-weight paper in the same color as their ink and used this on the inside of the tag.  Karllie wrote each guest’s name on the inside of the tag for a beautiful touch of personalization!  You may notice the slight discoloration on the white part of the tags – when using a light colored, all-natural-fiber paper, this is often a side-effect to laser cutting.  If you are interested in having us create something like this for you, but are bothered by the discoloration, we are happy to utilize alternate paper types or colors that will minimize this side-effect.  Each tag had a cream silk ribbon threaded through it and the whole thing was tied around the other pieces to hold them together.

Isn’t this suite just gorgeous?!?  I love it so much, and Karllie and Steve were a fantastic couple to work with!  Oh, in case you’re wondering, I was able to track down the cover of the Australian Cosmo where these are featured.  It’s their current “Fall 2014” issue (since it’s currently fall in the southern hemisphere).  Here’s what the cover looks like for prosperity:

Cosmo Bride

So awesome!!  We’re so honored to even be a tiny part of a national publication in another country.  So cool!!

Thanks so much again for working with us, Karllie and Steve!  You two rock!

UPDATE: After posting this article, Karllie was sweet enough to get in touch with us and send over a couple photos of the actual feature!  Check them out:

Again, so cool!!  Thanks, Karllie!

Weddings | Emma & Joseph

I’ve shown this particular design before, but I love it so much that I figured it was time to show it off again!  The wedding invitation suite you see above was originally designed by Jihee Wu, and printed by us, for her own wedding in 2011, but Australian couple, Emma and Joseph, saw it on our site, and loved it so much, that they hired Jihee and I to recreate it for their wedding!

Their suite includes an A7 size invitation, printed in two colors, with a coordinating envelope, and an A2 size reply card with coordinating envelope.  All of the pieces were printed on Crane Lettra Pearl White Paper.  The envelopes we used were from Waste Not Paper Company.

Emma2

I just love the contrast in this design between the super-modern, san-serif type used for the majority of the invitation and the lovely, custom script Jihee created for the names.  I also love how we made the single line “joyfully invite you to their wedding” stand out by printing it in such a bright pink!  The address on the invite envelope was designed to match using the same script for the names, stretching across the flap and the same modern type for the rest of the address.

The reply card and envelope that you can see below also featured custom script and modern type, printed in grey ink!  I love it!!

If you’d like to check out more designs that we’ve worked on with Jihee, you can here and here.  If you like her style, please contact us and we’d be happy to put you in touch!

Thanks so much again for working with us, Emma & Joseph!

Weddings | Anna & James

Check out this lovely and classic wedding invitation suite we recently completed for Australian couple, Anna & James!  Anna and James are getting married outside on the grounds of their church in Gleniffer, New South Wales, in April of 2014.  Anna had a fantastically clear vision of what she wanted for her wedding invitations, and hired us to turn that vision into a reality!  Her and James’ suite features an A7 size invitation, a custom made tag that has RSVP information printed on one side and information about gift-giving on the other, and coordinating envelopes.  The styling is timeless and classic.  All pieces were printed in black ink and feature a gorgeous, contemporary calligraphy font, contrasted with a classic roman typeface for the majority of the wording.  There are also some lovely, hand-drawn details decorating both the tags and invitations.

I just love the tree motif at the top of this invitation!  It’s so lovely and whimsical when paired with the calligraphy font that we used for Anna and James’ names.

Below, you can see a closer view of the tags.  These were custom laser cut out of the same cotton rag paper that we used for the invitations and then printed double-sided with the gift and RSVP information.  Each tag also has a hole drilled in it so that Anna could tie them on to the invitation with either twine or a ribbon.

I loved working with Anna and James on this suite, and I think the results are just beautiful!  If you’re looking to create a similar style for your wedding, please don’t hesitate to contact us!  We would love to work with you!

Weddings | Jennifer & Sol

Check out these beautiful turquoise and silver invitations that we created earlier this year for Los Angeles couple, Jennifer & Sol!  I just love turquoise and silver together, as a color combination, and I absolutely love the way we were able to combine modern, center-justified, san-serif type with pretty, swirly script for the names.  The decorative silver flourishes in the top and bottom corners of the invite were also a really nice visual element!

Jenn & Sol’s invites were printed on super-soft, 100% cotton rag paper.  I just love the way that the thin lettering truly creates a “bite” in the page!

The invitations were paired with a coordinating, shimmery, turquoise envelope that featured the couple’s return address printed on the back in silver ink.  We also printed some more decorative flourishing on the front corners of each envelope!

Jenn & Sol’s gorgeous wedding was featured on Style Me Pretty!  If you’d like to see some totally beautiful photos from their big day, go check them out!

Jenn & Sol were truly a pleasure to work with and I just love how their wedding invitations came out!  If either of you are reading this, thanks so much again for working with us!  If you ever need anything in the future, please don’t hesitate to let us know!

Weddings | Amanda & Rhett

Check out the beautiful calligraphy that we letterpress printed for Louisiana couple, Amanda & Rhett’s, classic wedding invitations for their March 2013 wedding at the White Oak Plantation in Baton Rouge, Louisiana!  The gorgeous calligraphy for these invites was done by Kathryn Podorsky of Della Carta Studio, and then letterpress printed by us, in black ink on 7″ square, luxurious Arturo Fine Stationery.  These were paired with matching inner and outer envelopes.  The outer envelopes featured Amanda’s parent’s return address in calligraphy on the back flap.  Gorgeous!!
