2012 Holiday Card Round-Up!

Before we get too far into 2013, I wanted to take a moment to show off the awesome custom holiday cards we created for our clients for this past holiday season.  It always brings a smile to my face when a client from the past that we made wedding invitations or birth announcements, or business cards for, comes back during the holidays to order a special holiday or New Year’s card.  I also love getting holiday and New Year’s card orders from new clients!  Everyone can use a little letterpress in their life, whether they’re getting married or not!  Above is a small collection of my favorite custom holiday cards that we printed in 2012!

Allie and Ryan Hole were married in 2011 in California and they hired us to print their Save-the-Date cards, which you can see here.  For their holiday cards this year, they decided to re-use the tandem bike and whippets from their Save-the-dates, and had me “holiday-it-up” a little bit.  In order to do this, I paired the original drawing with a snowflake theme and some festive fonts to create the A6 flat holiday card you see below.  These were printed in gold ink on Crane Lettra Ecru Paper.

Another sweet, doggie-themed holiday card we created this past season was for Julia Swartz of Maryland Standard Poodles.  Julia published a children’s book entitled “Wishing Star: a Poodle’s Tale” about a year ago, and hired us to print some letterpress greeting cards to commemorate the publication.  Julia still carries those cards as well as these new ones, and the book, in her online shop.  Go check them out!  Everything you will see there is really adorable!

These blue, A7-size flat holiday cards for Lisa Brooks and her husband, James, were very sweet and classic!  We printed these in a single ink color on 100% cotton paper and paired them with matching blue envelopes.

Along the same lines as Lisa’s cards were these awesome folded holiday greetings for Portland, Oregon couple York and Julie!  I love the retro typefaces and the awesome use of overprinting.  York designed these holiday cards himself, and I just love how well he took advantage of the letterpress process’ strengths.

One particularly touching set of cards I printed this December was for a Seattle family whose daughter had vanquished cancer in 2012.  Sally Lanham hired us to customize our Crane String Cards with a personal message on the inside.  I think this was a lovely way to celebrate her daughter’s triumph over cancer, and to wish their friends and family a healthy, Happy New Year.

Another couple that I’ve been working with for several years now, hired us to do holiday cards this year that both celebrated the season, and announced their move into their first (“Furst” is their last name) home!  Miami couple, Rachel and Joseph Furst are awesome and I just loved printing these cards for them!  We also printed their wedding invitations back in 2009, and their holiday cards in 2010.  The drawing of their new house for this year’s card was done by the couple’s architect!  I think it turned out so awesome!

I also bought my first house in 2012 and was inspired by Rachel & Joseph to use that achievement as the theme for my own holiday cards this year.  I was a little late sending mine out (as always – when you work on other folks’ stationery all day, you’re not terribly motivated to do your own), but you can check them out below!  The small house drawing was done (really fast) by moi.

Thanks so much everyone who ordered holiday cards this past year!  It’s always a pleasure working with all of you!  I’m looking forward to more exciting letterpress adventures in 2013!

Happy New Year's Eve!

Happy New Year’s Eve, everyone!  I had been contemplating doing a “Best of 2010” sort of post for today on the blog, but quite frankly, in looking back over all of the jobs I’ve done this year, all of the photos I’ve taken of wedding invitations we’ve created, baby’s births that we’ve announced, and other awesome business and personal stationery we’ve designed and printed this year, it was just too hard for me to pick out “Best of’s”.  If I had, this post would be as long as my leg, and as much as I know you love looking at pretty pictures, I’d rather give all of the jobs featured here their moment in the spotlight, rather than lumping them all together.  And, honestly, I have loved just about every client and every set of stationery we’ve done this year.  Of course, I do have some favorites, but the vast majority of customers I worked with this year were just too cool, that I don’t want to single anyone out (or forget anyone that was totally awesome).  So instead, I present you above with a photo from the first ever New Year’s celebration held in Times Square in 1904, courtesy of everyone’s friend, le internet.

2010 has been a wonderful year for Twin Ravens Press, and I feel so fortunate that I get to get up every morning and come to work doing something that I love.  Without all of you, this wouldn’t be possible.  Thanks for helping to make my love of great design, beautiful printing and century-old antique machinery into a career.  I couldn’t have done it without you.  Happy New Year’s Eve and I’ll be seeing you in 2011!

Custom Holiday Cards 2010

Since today is the day before Christmas Eve, I thought it would only be appropriate to show off some of the lovely custom holiday cards we designed and printed this season!  Twin Ravens Press offers several lovely, letterpress greeting cards, gift tags and gift cards in our etsy store around the holidays, but we also welcome orders for custom and personalized holiday cards throughout the season.  If you didn’t get a chance to order holiday cards from us this year, but think you may want to in the future, I have one piece of advice for you: please plan ahead.  Creating custom cards takes time and we get a lot of requests starting in October to do them and we can only do so many.  The earlier you plan and order your cards, the more likely you are to be able to get one of our holiday spots and have guaranteed delivery of your cards a few weeks or more before Christmas.  Now that I got that out there, let’s look at a few of the holiday cards we designed and printed for Christmas 2010!

The holiday cards you see above were designed and printed for my mom, Edie, earlier this year.  They are an A6 size and feature a silhouette of the Grand Tetons, the Snake River, cute little green pine trees and Santa and his sleigh flying over the valley.  These were printed on Crane Lettra Pearl White paper in four ink colors and came with coordinating envelopes printed in silver ink.

I always enjoy when wedding clients that we’ve worked with earlier in the year contact us to do holiday cards!  Rachel and Joseph hired us to do their wedding invitations in 2009 and then Rachel had us design the festive, gold holiday cards you see below this November!  These are A2 size flat cards printed on Crane Lettra 100% cotton ecru paper in gold ink.  They came with coordinating kraft brown envelopes that were also printed with gold.  I love the tropical design for Florida!

These next cards, that you see below are also flat, rather than folded, and were printed in a single color: a bright, vibrant, holiday red.  They are an A7 size, printed on Holyoke Antique White paper and feature an area on the left for a family photo to be glued on, and a joyful holiday message on the right.  These cards were designed by a talented designer in California that we’ve worked with on and off for several years now, Liz Grant.  I just love the different fonts that Liz used in this design!  If you like Liz’s design and are interested in hiring her for some design work, you can contact her by e-mail.  She designs wedding invitations too and she’s awesome!

Last, but not least, are some cards we designed for one of our longest standing holiday card customers, Natalie.  This year Natalie wanted to do cards with silhouettes of her, her partner and their four-legged family members, so she sent me photos of everyone and I drew their silhouettes, along with a festive, green tree on an A2 size, folded card.

These cards came with matching green envelopes and we also printed their holiday message inside in green!  Aren’t they awesome?!?

Last year, Natalie customized one of the card designs from our regular collection, our holiday hedgehogs, with her own message and we printed her address in brown ink on coordinating pool blue envelopes to go with them.  Check them out below!

Custom letterpress holiday cards send a beautiful message to friends and family during the holiday season!  If you are interested in placing an order for holiday cards for 2011, please don’t hesitate to contact us!  We would love to work with you!  Merry Christmas Everyone!

Holiday Cards Galore & Thanksgiving Sale!

It’s that time of year, folks!  If you visited our Etsy shop recently, you will have noticed that we’ve been listing lots and lots of holiday-related goodies in our online store: everything from greeting cards to small gift cards and tags to letterpress printed goodies that would make great holiday gifts, like coasters.  If you haven’t been over there recently, I’m about to give you more of a reason than ever to go very soon!

First though, I’d like to give you a little taste of all of the lovely holiday items that are available, right now, in our etsy store!  Below is our Penguin Snowball Fight holiday card.  This design is the newest addition to our holiday line, and it is an A2 size, printed on Crane Lettra 110 lb. Pearl White Paper in 5(!) ink colors, and comes with coordinating pale blue envelopes.  These are available as singles and in sets of 6 or 12.

Last year, at the end of the holiday season we released these lovely sets of tags that  you see below.  These were a collaboration between the awesome calligrapher/hand-lettering artist Crystal Kluge and myself.  They come in packs of 6 (one of each different tag design) for only $5.00 a set.  They’re a super cute way to dress up your holiday gifts this season!

We’ve also started releasing a series of small (only 3.5″x2″, folded) gift cards in various designs and colors.  You can see four of those below (and yes, I did throw a birthday one in there just for variety, on purpose).  These are another very cute way to dress up your packages this holiday season! Clockwise from upper left: Origami Crane Holiday Gift Card, “Make a Wish” Gift Card, Snowflakes Gift Card, “Happy Birthday” Cupcake Gift Card.  All of these gift cards come in packages of six with coordinating envelopes for only $5.00 per pack!

The greeting cards in the grouping of photos below are all 4bar size and come in sets of 10, 6 or as singles.  Clockwise from top left: Holiday Hedgehogs, Poinsettia Mouse and Peace Dove.

Above, the top left most card, the VW Bug Christmas card, is a 4bar size, and the others in the grouping are A2s.  The A2 size cards come in sets of 12, 6 or as singles.  Clockwise from top left: Volkswagen Christmas Card, Cardinals, Holiday Cat & Lights and Crane String (Green-Copper-Red).  The Crane String card comes in other colors as well, if you like the design but want colors that aren’t so Christmas-y.

At Twin Ravens Press, I feel like I have a lot to be thankful for on this day before Thanksgiving.  As of this coming January we will have been in business, making lovely letterpress printed goodies for people all over the country, and in a variety of countries around the world, for four years.  We’re doing great, and I couldn’t be happier running this business.  The thing about it is, the reason that Twin Ravens Press is working so well, is because of you, not me.  Your continued support and enthusiasm for our designs, printing and products, both custom and not, is what makes Twin Ravens Press possible.  So, as an extra special thank you to you, our customers, this holiday season, I’m extending an extra special Thanksgiving/Black Friday Sale.  We aren’t going to be open tomorrow or Friday, so this is an online sale only.  Here’s how it’s going to work: visit our Etsy Shop between midnight tonight (the start of the Thanksgiving holiday), and midnight on Friday (Pacific Standard Time), and order anything from our store.  Enter the code: GIVETHANKS2010 when you check out, and receive 20% off of your entire order!  This sale applies to all products in our store, not only the holiday ones, so if there’s something you’ve been meaning to pick up, please don’t hesitate.  Please note that this sale only applies to items in our etsy shop, and not to custom orders, custom printing, or graphic design services.  That’s it!

As I imagine we might get a little more traffic this weekend as a result of the sale, I will be logging in periodically to re-stock items that have sold.  If you don’t see everything you want, right when you log in, check back in again, as it will probably be back.  All orders will be filled beginning Monday morning, November 29th, in the order that they were received.  Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

Tart Workshop + Twin Ravens Press Holiday Gift Tags

I recently had the opportunity to team up with the awesomely creative calligrapher/illustrator of Tart Workshop, Crystal Kluge, to design and letterpress print an absolutely adorable set of holiday gift tags. Crystal and I have had (and currently have) some mutual custom clients, so it was really exciting to get to work with her again on a project specifically for Tart Workshop & Twin Ravens Press!

These gift tags come in sets of six, one tag each of six different designs. All of the patterns were created by Crystal and all of the letterpress printing, die-cutting and assembly was done by Twin Ravens Press. These gift tags are 2.75″ in diameter and feature a different pattern in one of four ink colors (red, green, copper or silver) on one side, and a place to write who the gift is to and from on the back side.
Each tag is tied with a piece of all-natural hemp twine, making them easy to attach to gifts or hang from a Christmas tree. The tag sets come packaged in a 100% biodegradable, clear, corn-cello bag.

Since we are releasing these tags so late in the season, we are offering you a very special deal on them! Visit the Twin Ravens Press Etsy Shop today or tomorrow and purchase $20.00 (or more) of our products (this can be single greeting cards, boxed sets, coasters, etc.) and receive one set of gift tags free with your purchase! This offer is only valid until tomorrow, Sunday, December 20th at 5:00 pm, Pacific Standard Time, or while supplies last, so head over to the shop now! If you just want the tags, that’s perfectly fine too, they are also available for purchase on etsy, right here.
If you are currently a Twin Ravens Press retailer or you are considering carrying our products in your retail store, these tags will be added to our collection, and are available for wholesale purchases now. If you’re already looking ahead for next year, keep these in mind, as they are super-cute!
If you’d like to check out more of Crystal Kluge’s gorgeous hand-lettering, graphic design, illustration and typography design, check out her website and blog. I love working with Crystal, so check out her work if you have a custom project in mind!
Thanks so much again for the collaboration Crystal, and to all of my lovely readers out there: Happy Holidays and Happy Shopping!
