Weddings | Hilary & Paul

If you’re looking for something beautiful and formal, but slightly different from the norm, I think you’ll love these gorgeous script wedding invitations we designed and letterpress printed for Hilary & Paul of Alexandria, Virginia last year.  Hilary and Paul were getting married in a formal celebration in Maryland and wanted a gorgeous and unique invitation to reflect the style of their wedding.  The above is what we came up with!  Hilary and Paul’s suite featured an A7 size wedding invite and invitation envelope, and an A2 size rehearsal dinner invitation and RSVP postcard.

Their wedding invitation was a traditional A7 size, printed entirely in a glamorous script typeface with some lovely flourish accents in two of the corners.  The invite was printed in metallic silver ink on Stardream Onyx paper.  This paper is almost black and very shimmery, and the silver ink stands out beautifully on it.  Their rehearsal dinner invitation was also printed in silver ink on the same shimmery black stock, but on a slightly smaller A2 size card instead.

I love how classic and formal the design of these pieces is, but I also love the fact that the paper/ink combination and that all of the script is slanted diagonally across the page makes this invitation really stand out from other formal and traditional wedding invitations.

In the top right photo in the grouping below you can see an image of their invitation envelope.  The envelope was a slightly lighter charcoal grey color, but still shimmery.  We printed their return address in calligraphy on the flap, also in silver ink.

In order to make sure that their guests would still be able to write on their reply cards, we decided to print the reply on white paper in silver ink.  Hilary and Paul’s reply cards were a double-sided postcard that featured the french “Réspondez S’il Vous Plaît” on one side and their monogram, return address and reply card information on the opposite side.  I loved how we were able to change up the paper for this piece, but still have it coordinate perfectly with the other pieces in Hilary & Paul’s suite.

The final piece we created for Hilary & Paul was a menu for their reception.  Because the menu had significantly more text than the invite, reply card or rehearsal dinner invitation, we incorporated a couple of non-script fonts in order to make the menu more readable with the fonts being at a smaller size.  I love the border around the design and the fact that we were still able to incorporate the script and colors we’d been using all along into the design.  I’m sure these looked just fabulous at Hilary & Paul’s reception!

Hilary and Paul’s wedding was recently featured in Baltimore Bride Magazine.  I haven’t received a copy of the magazine yet, but am looking forward to getting one in the mail soon!  If you’d like to read more about the feature, you can on Hilary’s website.  Go check it out!

Thanks so much again for working with us on these, Hilary and Paul!  I love how they turned out and would love to work with you again in the future!

Stylish & Classic Calligraphy Monogram Cards

Check out these lovely letterpress printed calligraphy monogram cards that we printed last week!  These cards are a 4bar size folded note card with the couple’s monogram in calligraphy on the front.  They were printed on Crane Lettra Bright White paper in black ink, and are blank on the inside.  Each of these cards also came with a matching 4bar Crane Lettra envelope with the couples return address printed in calligraphy on the back flap.  Both the calligraphy return address and the monogram on the front of the cards was created by the lovely and talented Katrina Centeno of Calligraphy Katrina & Maison du Papier in Los Angeles, California.

Calligraphy monogram notecards have been used for centuries for a variety of different occasions, and they are stylish, classic, and timeless all at the same time.  Notes like this would be great as thank you cards for a wedding or other special event, and they are also wonderful to use as stylish personal stationery for your ordinary correspondence.

I love the contrast of the deep, black letterpress printed calligraphy on the bright white paper.  It’s so elegant and timeless!  The small, calligraphy return address that we printed on the flaps of each envelope is so beautiful too!  You can see it in much better detail in the photo below.

Thanks so much Katrina for working with us on these for your client!  I just love letterpress printing your calligraphy and can’t wait to work with you again!  Talk to you soon!

Save the Date | Lindsay & Shawn are Getting Married!

Check out this elegant Save-the-Date set we created for Corona del Mar, California couple Lindsay and Shawn earlier this month!

When Lindsay contacted us to letterpress print these Save-the-Date cards, she already had her design pretty figured-out, but left it to us to make some minor design alterations to really make the letterpress work fantastically!  The Save-the-Date card is a long, skinny #10 size and was printed in black ink on 100% cotton rag Holyoke paper in Antique White.  I absolutely love this new paper stock!  It’s soft, subtle and perfect for letterpress printing!  The antique white color has that old-world, elegant, classy feel to it.  For the design, Lindsay had us use a custom-made damask pattern, a custom-made monogram and some wonderfully rich, romantic typefaces for the design.  We mounted a black and white photo of the couple on a 1/4″ black matt on top of the damask pattern on each Save-the-Date.  Isn’t it pretty?!?  Check out some of the details in the photos below!

Lindsay and Shawn’s Save-the-Date was paired with a romantic, super-light-pink envelope from Green Paper Company.  We printed Lindsay’s return address on the monarch-style flap of the envelope in the same style as here Save-the-Date card, also with black ink.  I love the way this envelope added just a hint of color to the otherwise classic, monochromatic set.  It’s just a hint of a color, without being too much!  Love it!

Lindsay and Shawn are having us design and print a set of invitations for them as well, in the coming months, and I’m really excited to see what we come up with for those!  If you like this style, check back in to see their full invitation suite in the next few months!  Thanks so much Lindsay and Shawn!  Talk to you soon!

Weddings | Chatie & Hanzy

2010 seems to be just flying by folks!  While we’re still well in the middle of printing wedding invitations for 2010 though, I’m excited to show off our first 2011 invitation to you today!  We designed these lovelies for a couple getting married in the Philippines this coming January and letterpress printed them last week.

I love how warm and tropical this design feels!  Chatie had us design and print her invitation, which is a standard A7 size, and was printed on Crane Lettra 100% cotton Pearl White paper.  We created a lovely and whimsical starfish/bubble pattern along the bottom and right edge that was blind embossed for a wonderful, textural effect.  We also created and blind embossed a fun interwoven monogram of Chatie & Hanzy’s initials for the top.  All of the wording is handwritten calligraphy by Fran Heider of Little Flower Calligraphy.  We’ve worked with Fran on numerous projects and her work is always absolutely gorgeous!  All of the calligraphy was made into a letterpress printing plate and printed by us, using a light turquoise ink.  Check out some of the details below.

I absolutely loved working with Chatie to create her invitations, and I know that her wedding in the Philippines this upcoming January is going to be just beautiful!  Congratulations Chatie & Hanzy and all the best to you!
