Weddings | Jennifer & Sol

Check out these beautiful turquoise and silver invitations that we created earlier this year for Los Angeles couple, Jennifer & Sol!  I just love turquoise and silver together, as a color combination, and I absolutely love the way we were able to combine modern, center-justified, san-serif type with pretty, swirly script for the names.  The decorative silver flourishes in the top and bottom corners of the invite were also a really nice visual element!

Jenn & Sol’s invites were printed on super-soft, 100% cotton rag paper.  I just love the way that the thin lettering truly creates a “bite” in the page!

The invitations were paired with a coordinating, shimmery, turquoise envelope that featured the couple’s return address printed on the back in silver ink.  We also printed some more decorative flourishing on the front corners of each envelope!

Jenn & Sol’s gorgeous wedding was featured on Style Me Pretty!  If you’d like to see some totally beautiful photos from their big day, go check them out!

Jenn & Sol were truly a pleasure to work with and I just love how their wedding invitations came out!  If either of you are reading this, thanks so much again for working with us!  If you ever need anything in the future, please don’t hesitate to let us know!

Weddings | Alison & Matthew

The invitations I’m posting today are one of my favorite classic, yet modern, black & white suites from last year!  They’re big, beautiful, and classy with just a touch of whimsy!  Alison and Matthew hired me last year to design and print this suite, based on some samples they had seen of some of my previous invitations, but also wanted to incorporate some custom calligraphy!  Their suite included a large 7″-square invite and corresponding envelope, a 4bar size reply card and matching envelope, and a small 3.5″x2.5″ reception card.

Alison & Matthew’s gorgeous invite was printed in two ink colors: black and silver.  We used the silver for their names only and the black for all of the other text.  The invites were printed on double-thick Crane Lettra Duplex paper.  Alison hired the awesome Kelle Anne McCarter of designsgirl to create her custom calligraphy.  Isn’t it beautiful?!?  Alison had Kelle create a few key phrases in calligraphy for the other pieces for us to incorporate into their design.  You can see the reply card and matching envelope in the photo below.  I love how the phrases “kindly reply”, “m______________”, and “mr. and mrs steven jones” are in calligraphy!  I love the contrast between them and the other phrases in the serif font – it’s such a nice contrast.

In the top left photo above you can see that we used the same return address for the back flap of the main invitation envelope.  The top right photo is a close up of the reception card.  This insert measured 3.5″x2.5″ (just slightly larger than a regular business card) and featured Kelle Anne’s calligraphy for “dinner and dancing” and the rest of the info in the serif font.  Lastly, to make the invites even more special, we edge painted them in a shimmery silver edge paint to match Alison & Matthew’s names.  I just love how these invitations turned out!

Alison and Matthew, thanks so much again for working with us last year!  If you ever need anything, please don’t hesitate to let me know!

Weddings | Bianca & Paul

The day after Christmas, a lovely couple that we had the pleasure of working with from Paris, France, were married in the Philippines.  Talk about an awesome destination wedding!  Bianca and I designed her invitations via email and Skype, and the results were truly awesome!  She was looking for a classy and sophisticated design that spoke to both their ceremony, and maturity as a couple.  We chose to use a beautiful damask pattern and classic fonts printed in silver ink to achieve this look!  Each invitation was letterpress printed as an A7 size in one ink color (silver) on super-thick, 220# Crane Lettra Duplex paper.  After they were printed, we then laser-cut each invitation out to give it the cool, scalloped edges that you can see in the photos.  To make these invites even more unique and special, we also edge painted all of them with shimmery copper edge paint.  A set of A7 envelopes were also printed with Bianca & Paul’s return address on the flap to compliment the invitation!  I just love how this classy set of invites turned out, and it was such a joy working with Bianca!  Check out more photos of the finished invites below!  Thanks so much again for working with us Bianca!  I’m sure your wedding a few weeks ago was just beautiful!  If you ever need anything else, please don’t hesitate to ask!  Thanks again!

Weddings | Kathryn & Richard

Happy New Year and Happy Friday Everyone!  With the busy-ness of the holiday season, it’s been a while since we actually showed off anything new!  There’s no time like the present to remedy that!  To start off the year, I want to share with you one of my favorite new designs from last summer, that I hadn’t gotten around to showing you yet.  This invitation was created for San Francisco couple Kathryn and Richard, and I couldn’t be more pleased with how it turned out!  You can see the full suite in the photo above.  It included an A7 size invitation with corresponding outer envelope, a 4-bar size reply card with corresponding envelope, and a cute, A2-size Welcome BBQ invitation!

Kathryn2

When I initially began talking to Kathryn about what she envisioned for her invitation suite, she mentioned really liking this set of invitations that was originally designed by New York City designer, Jihee Wu, for her own wedding and letterpress printed by us.  While Kathryn loved Jihee’s suite, she also wanted her design to utilize some more traditional fonts and to possibly add a few more decorative elements, rather than just relying on the text as decoration.  I think what we came up with was a perfect melding of these two aesthetics!  Kathryn and Richard’s invite was printed in metallic ink colors: gold and silver on Crane Lettra Pearl White Paper!  I love the large, gold script names in the center of the design, as well as the gold flourishes at the top and bottom!  So pretty!

For the invitation envelope, Kathryn chose an awesome, shimmery metallic black envelope and we letterpress printed the same flourishes from the invitation on the upper-left and bottom-right corners of the front in silver ink.  We also printed their return address in silver on the back flap, using the same fonts from the invitation!

One of my favorite things about this suite is the awesome combination of different papers Kathryn chose for the different pieces!  For her reply card envelope, we matched the colors from the invite envelope and simply printed a matching envelope in a smaller size.  For the reply card itself, Kathryn picked out an awesome, shimmery grey (almost dark silver) paper for the actual card, and we printed the design on it in black ink.

Last, but not, least, is their Welcome BBQ invitation.  In lieu of a formal rehearsal dinner Kathryn & Richard held a fun, Welcome BBQ at their home in San Francisco, the evening before their wedding.  For this smaller invitation, we hired the wonderful folks at Porridge Papers to create a custom gold paper for us to print on.  It’s difficult to see in the photos, but this paper is bright and shimmery, much like the envelopes Kathryn chose, but still awesomely soft and perfect for letterpress printing.  For the design of this card, we used a slightly more casual and whimsical font for “Welcome BBQ”, and added two little hearts to the line at the bottom.  Too cute!  These cards were printed with shimmery silver ink.

Check out the detail of the letterpress printing in the image above!  I just love printing on custom papers!

Kathryn and Richard, thanks so much again for working with us last year!  I hope the new year to come brings you both lots of joy!  Thanks again!

Weddings | Stationery for a Wedding in Finland

I’ve said it before, but I always get super-excited when couples from overseas find us and hire us to produce their wedding stationery.  There’s just something about the distance and the great big internet bringing us together that I find kind of amazing.  Earlier this year, I got to work with a lovely British couple, who were recently married in Helsinki,  Finland, this past September.  Their wedding invitations were modern and elegant and I just love the way everything for them came together!

These wedding invitations featured a single A7 size invite and corresponding envelope.  The invitation was letterpress printed in two ink colors: gold and red, on lovely, Holyoke 100% cotton bone white paper.  The invitation design itself was simple and modern, which I personally really love!  It featured the main body text of their invitation in a red, all-caps, classic, serif font and their names in gold in a simple script (at the request of the couple the names have been blurred to protect their privacy, however, trust me, the script was gold and simple and beautiful).  The text was centered and was surrounded by a fun, organic pattern of little gold dots.  It was so simple and pretty – I just love it!  We paired their invitation with an antique gold envelope from Waste Not Paper Company and letterpress printed their return address on the flap in silver ink.

Check out the letterpress impression in the close up photo below!

This couple were wonderful to work with, even from such a great distance, and  I absolutely love how their invitations turned out!  If you’re not in Oregon, but are interested in working with us, please don’t hesitate to send us a quick “hello!”.  We love working with clients from all across the country and around the world!

Custom Business Cards | Color & Dust

Earlier this year, we created a gorgeous, timeless, set of custom letterpress business cards for Kelsey Strawn of Color & Dust in Tyler, Texas.  Kelsey hired us to rebrand her photography business and I just love the logo and business card design we came up with!  Above you can see the finished letterpress business cards we made.  Kelsey’s cards feature rounded corners and were printed in silver ink on ultra-thick Crane Lettra 100% cotton duplex 220 lb. paper.  We used a combination of an ultra-modern san-serif font for the logo and a fun handwritten script for the tagline and URL.

As an extra special finishing touch, we also edge painted Kelsey’s cards in silver!  I just love how modern and timeless these are!  Perfect for a photography business!

This is actually the second set of business cards Color & Dust has had us print.  The original set was done in the same design and was printed on a custom, handmade purple paper from Porridge Papers in gold ink.  These cards were super-awesome too, but unfortunately, I fogot to take photos of them.  : (  At any rate, I just love working with Kelsey, and her photography is amazing!  If you’re in or near Tyler, Texas, you should definitely look her up!

Kelsey was kind enough to share a few of her favorite images with us!  All photos below courtesy of Color & Dust.

Aren’t her photos just lovely!?!  I love her heavy use of natural lighting and bright colors!  If I had kiddos, I would totally hire Kelsey to do family portraits or pictures of my kids.  Seriously, if you’re in Texas, go check out Color & Dust!

Weddings | Vi & Lalo

If you’ve been reading this blog for a while, you may remember a post from over a year ago about an awesome set of very modern black & white save-the-date coasters we did for a Texas couple named Vi & Lalo. The coasters are pictured below.  I loved printing this design, and as a result have designed and printed several other very similar save-the-dates since.  This reminded me that in all of the excitement and busyness of last fall, I never actually wrote about Vi & Lalo’s invitation suite.  Their invitations were super-cool too!

Vi and Lalo’s invitations were also black and white and were a square pocket folder style.  The suite included an invitation with coordinating envelope, a reply card and envelope, a reception card, and a sweet, simple belly band.  In the grouping of photos below you can see Vi & Lalo’s pocket folder invitation all closed up with the belly band.  The belly band was a simple band of purple paper that was printed with their names and wedding date in silver ink.  When the pocket folder was opened, it revealed their awesome, 6.25″ square invitation in the center of the folder with the extra pieces in the suite neatly stored in the pocket on the right.  In the bottom right photo below you can see a close-up of their return address from their invitation envelopes.  The invitation envelopes were 6.5″ square metallic silver ones with their address printed in black ink on the flap.

I love how modern and unique Vi & Lalo’s invitation design was!  Vi and Lalo designed all of the pieces in their suite themselves and then hired us to letterpress print them.  All of the printing was done on 110 lb. Crane Lettra Bright White 100% cotton paper in black ink.  I love Vi’s use of ultra-modern fonts and how she made the letters of her and Lalo’s names join together in certain areas and connect to the modern flourishes at the top and bottom of the invite.  They’re so cool!!

Vi and Lalo’s reply card was designed to match and utilized the same fonts and similar design elements from the invitation.  These were a 4bar size and came paired with a coordinating purple envelope in the same shade as the belly band.  Each reply card envelope was printed with Vi & Lalo’s address on the front in black ink.

Last, but not least, Vi & Lalo also included a separate reception card with their suite.  Their wedding was held in a church and the reception in a hotel, so this extra little card was perfect for making the distinction.  I love how Vi continued the modern flourishing on this card even though she didn’t have larger typography to connect it to!  The continuity throughout this suite is just so cool!

I loved working with Vi & Lalo last year on these invitations and just love their modern sense of style!  Thanks so much again for working with us Vi!  If you ever need anything else, just let me know!  All the best!

Weddings | Hilary & Paul

If you’re looking for something beautiful and formal, but slightly different from the norm, I think you’ll love these gorgeous script wedding invitations we designed and letterpress printed for Hilary & Paul of Alexandria, Virginia last year.  Hilary and Paul were getting married in a formal celebration in Maryland and wanted a gorgeous and unique invitation to reflect the style of their wedding.  The above is what we came up with!  Hilary and Paul’s suite featured an A7 size wedding invite and invitation envelope, and an A2 size rehearsal dinner invitation and RSVP postcard.

Their wedding invitation was a traditional A7 size, printed entirely in a glamorous script typeface with some lovely flourish accents in two of the corners.  The invite was printed in metallic silver ink on Stardream Onyx paper.  This paper is almost black and very shimmery, and the silver ink stands out beautifully on it.  Their rehearsal dinner invitation was also printed in silver ink on the same shimmery black stock, but on a slightly smaller A2 size card instead.

I love how classic and formal the design of these pieces is, but I also love the fact that the paper/ink combination and that all of the script is slanted diagonally across the page makes this invitation really stand out from other formal and traditional wedding invitations.

In the top right photo in the grouping below you can see an image of their invitation envelope.  The envelope was a slightly lighter charcoal grey color, but still shimmery.  We printed their return address in calligraphy on the flap, also in silver ink.

In order to make sure that their guests would still be able to write on their reply cards, we decided to print the reply on white paper in silver ink.  Hilary and Paul’s reply cards were a double-sided postcard that featured the french “Réspondez S’il Vous Plaît” on one side and their monogram, return address and reply card information on the opposite side.  I loved how we were able to change up the paper for this piece, but still have it coordinate perfectly with the other pieces in Hilary & Paul’s suite.

The final piece we created for Hilary & Paul was a menu for their reception.  Because the menu had significantly more text than the invite, reply card or rehearsal dinner invitation, we incorporated a couple of non-script fonts in order to make the menu more readable with the fonts being at a smaller size.  I love the border around the design and the fact that we were still able to incorporate the script and colors we’d been using all along into the design.  I’m sure these looked just fabulous at Hilary & Paul’s reception!

Hilary and Paul’s wedding was recently featured in Baltimore Bride Magazine.  I haven’t received a copy of the magazine yet, but am looking forward to getting one in the mail soon!  If you’d like to read more about the feature, you can on Hilary’s website.  Go check it out!

Thanks so much again for working with us on these, Hilary and Paul!  I love how they turned out and would love to work with you again in the future!

Weddings | Jennifer & Brandon

This lovely, formal set of black and white wedding invitations was the suite that I had intended to post on this blog back in March, on the day that I broke my hand.  Obviously, due to extenuating circumstances, this post didn’t go up back in March, but I still love this set of invites and think that you should get to see them after the fact, anyway.

Jennifer and Brandon had a formal wedding in Newport Beach, California on April 1st of this year.  They hired Twin Ravens to design and print their wedding invitation suite as well as all of the paper goods for their wedding day.  You can see all of the pieces in the invitation suite in the above photo.  The suite included an A7 size reception invitation, a smaller A2 size invitation to a smaller ceremony, an rsvp card and corresponding silver envelope and a set of inner/outer envelopes (the inner was black and the outer was white).  All of the main cards were printed on Crane Lettra 100% cotton duplex paper in Pearl White with black letterpress ink.  A funky, yet formal mix of fonts and flourishes characterized the design of this suite.

undefined

Above you can see Jen and Brandon’s ceremony invitation all by itself.  Prior to their evening reception, they held a small, private ceremony in Crystal Cove State Park with their closest friends and family.  I really love the classic elegance of these black and white invitations, combined with an awesome mix of both script and roman typefaces.  We used lots of little flourishes throughout the designs of each piece to add decoration and create natural separations of information on each card.

The photo on the top right below is a detail photo of the ceremony invitation, and the two other photos in the grouping are of the larger, A7 invite.  While the designs for the ceremony and reception invites are very similar in style, you’ll notice small design differences, if you look closely, that set the two designs apart.  We used different fonts for different parts of each invitation and we treated the date on both pieces very differently from one design to the other.  Like I said above, I love how we were able to incorporate so many unique fonts into this design, while still keeping everything very elegant!

undefinedundefined

For the envelopes, we printed Jen’s parent’s address in black ink on the back flap of a matching white outer envelope.  Their inner envelope was a contrasting black, and Jen hired a calligrapher to write their guest’s names in white ink on each one.  I imagine that these were just stunning!

undefined

Their reply card was designed to match the style of the invitations and included areas for guests to check their response and indicate what entree selection they desired for the reception.  Each reply card was paired with a shimmery silver reply card envelope, also printed with Jen’s parent’s address in black ink.

After their invitations had been sent out, Jen hired me to design a few more stationery pieces for their wedding day.  In the photo below, clockwise from top left, you can see her table numbers, escort cards, and thank you cards with envelopes.  The table numbers were printed with flourishes at the top and bottom and Jen had her calligrapher write in each of the table numbers to match the calligraphy that she had done on the invitation envelopes.  The escort cards were shaped like shipping tags and had each guest’s name written in calligraphy in the center of the tag between two letterpress flourishes.

undefinedundefinedundefinedJen and Brandon’s custom thank you cards are classic and enduring, stylistically.  For these cards we picked one of the flourishy script faces from their invitations and laid it out so that the flourishes stretched off of the front of each card with the words “Thank You” on a diagonal across the center.  These cards were printed on 110 lb. Crane Lettra paper in Pearl White and were blank on the inside so that Jen & Brandon could write their own personal message to each guest.  The thank you card envelopes were black printed with their return address in silver ink on each flap.  If you’d like to check out Jen & Brandon’s save-the-dates that we printed earlier in the year, you can here.

Thanks so much again for working with us Jen!  I wish you two all the best!

Custom Business Cards | Steel Bloom Flowers

undefined

Hi everybody!  I apologize for my long blogging absence last week, but things have been super-busy around here.  The great thing about that though, is that it means I have a lot of new, very cool work to show you in the coming days.  Today I want to show off a very unique and cool set of business cards for a little floral design business in Bend, Oregon, called Steel Bloom Flowers.  Steel Bloom’s owners, Stephanie & Mark McKinley, hired me to design and letterpress print their cards as well as come up with their logo and branding, and I’m super-excited about how all of it turned out!

In the photo above you can see Stephanie’s business cards (front and back) on the left and her tags for bouquets, arrangements and such on the right.  These cards are really unique and exciting!   They were printed on a custom duplexed, black, 180 lb. Wausau Eclipse Black stock.  We used silver ink for the main information and logo text on these cards, and then printed the Dahlia logo in the background using a slightly shiny black ink to create a varnish effect.  All of the cards feature rounded corners and all of them were were edge-painted with metallic silver.  Aren’t they awesome?!?

undefined

You’ll very rarely see my fingers in the photos on this blog, but for these cards I needed to show you how cool the black on black printing for Steel Bloom’s flower motif was.  When held in the sunlight, the flower really shimmers on each card.  I love the contrast too of the silver ink on the black.  We often have customers ask us if we can print white on black.  White on black really isn’t an option for letterpress printing since white letterpress ink is actually clear.  It doesn’t show up well on dark stocks.  I think that using silver though, creates a beautiful effect and is definitely a lot more readable than a non-opaque white ink ever could be.

undefined

In the photos above, you can see the backs of Stephanie’s business cards.  The backs have a slightly smaller dahlia motif, centered, and Steel Bloom’s logo on the back.

Below is a close-up of the tags.  Steel Bloom’s tags are a 2.5″ square shape with rounded corners printed on the same custom duplexed, Wassau Eclipse Black stock we used for their business cards.  These were printed single sided with the black-on-black dahlia in the background and silver text over the top.  Each of these cards was also edge-painted in metallic silver, which you can see in the bottom right photo below.  It’s such a cool effect!

undefined

Stephanie also ordered several adorable enclosure cards from us in different designs to pair with her arrangements.  Some feature the dahlia on a small, white folded card in either black, grey or silver, and others feature small hearts in the center of white cards in red, pink or silver.

I actually got to visit Steel Bloom Flowers and meet Stephanie and Mark in person over President’s Day weekend and it was so much fun to see their shop and actually meet them in person.  If you are in Bend, definitely stop by Steel Bloom Flowers on Arizona Avenue!  Stephanie and Mark are awesome!
