Description
This very special collaborative print was created in 2016 between myself (Kristin Walker) and a Renaissance Academy High School student in Baltimore, Maryland named Jaylen Myers. It was part of a much larger project, fundraiser, and exhibition titled “Breaking Frames”. Students involved with the Breaking Frames project were paired up with artists across the country to create a piece that represented the student’s experience growing up Black in one of the poorer neighborhoods and school districts in Baltimore. Original works were auctioned off and all of the funds raised were used to support underfunded arts programs for Black students in this inner-city high school.
The original addition of this print was 36. It was on display at the Eubie Blake Center with all of the other works in the Breaking Frames Exhibition in November 2016. All of the prints from the original edition went to Renaissance Academy and were sold to fund their arts programs in 2016.
In light of the ongoing importance of the Black Lives Matter movement, and the importance of providing Black students the funding and tools to share their creativity in spite of an unfair system, we would like to offer up the remaining five “Artist Proofs” from this series here, with 100% of funds raised going directly to the arts program at Renaissance Academy High School.
Prints are original linocut and letterpress, printed in four colors on 100% cotton paper. Original writing is by Jaylen Myers. Finished print size is: 4″x3.5″. Paper size is: 8″x10″. Prints are unnumbered and unsigned, and are available framed or unframed. In the event that you would like to contribute more than the asking price of the print, please PayPal your additional donation to: paypal.me/twinravenspress with the Subject Line #BlackLivesMatter.
